SPARE (not mine) is an autonomous sculpture built from one of the thousands of tread-worn tires that litter the roads of Los Angeles, California. This city, known for it's automobile culture, is at the beginning of the most dramatic change to transportation, driving, and work since the creation of the Ford Model T over 100 years ago: The rise of autonomous vehicles.
Much like the self-driving cars of Google and Tesla, SPARE (not mine) uses electronic sensors and AI to gain understanding of itself and the world around it.
It is built utilizing a tiny on-board computer packed with an inertial measurement unit (IMU), electric motor and various sensors which give it the ability to determine it's position, rotation, speed, velocity, acceleration, and objects in its path.
