360 VR Video, R&D, Engineering, Prototyping
2015
World’s Frist iPhone VR Capture Device

In 2015, the world of 360 VR content was just beginning and the available tools on the market were expensive devices which produced amateur qualty video and were a hassle to use.

RYOT News, now absorbed into Verizon Media, was a 360 VR documentary film-making and production company.

They approached us with a proposal:
Help us come up with a better 360 content creation tool.

As a response, polygonfuture created a one of a kind proof-of-concept for a 360 video camera using one of the worlds most popular smart-phones, the apple iPhone.

Utilizing 3D Printing, CNC machining, and electronics prototyping, we were able to replace the iPhone 6S+ camera lenses with an advanced rectilinear fisheye lenses that allowed us to capture 360 degree video utilizing iphones all while being controlled by an Apple Watch or iPad.
